And one thing I know about using computers, and fixing them too. is that computers/hard drives fail.
Although they are better than they were years ago and are getting more fail safe, it’s not there yet. Yes I back up my data but theoretically my back up hard drive can easily fail too just as well.
And if that happens then any digital files are gone/ don’t exist anymore if I don’t want to pay a high price/service for hard drive recovery ect. Therefore all my life when it comes to software, music, movies ect. I’ve always been willing to buy things that were on either a DVD or a CD since they don’t “fail” and they aren’t as easy to “loose” since it’s physical and not “logical” Therefore I’ve never really had a knack for buying things that I can loose easily or can easily be “deleted” like computer files.
If those files were “physical” or can somehow not disappear without being destroyed, then yes I might buy them. For example of my point, Microsoft Windows is software but I often buy the “disc” so it’s a physical thing and can’t be “deleted” or not “recovered” like computer files.
My issue with digital copyright and stuff and paying the same money for a digital book, movie, music ect. is that it’s less secure since it’s non-tangible and what happens when it ceases to exist due to a failure or deletion or something?
You have to buy it again. Maybe in the near future there will be non-corruptible hard drives that are almost as robust as CD’s / DVD’s as in you can’t loose what’s on there unless you loose it or destroy it like anything else that’s physical. Till then I listen to music on youtube, rent movies via netflix, watch my episodes/shows on their websites, use free software alternatives if there isn’t a DVD/CD one I can buy, and in rare instances pirate a copy if I need it (as a student) and it’s too expensive to buy the “file” and not a CD or DVD.
I suppose I can burn/back up those files to blank CD’s/DVD’s but legally I can’t because of copyright. Also even if I do, sometimes I use different operating systems on different computers and the files aren’t compatible ect so in a sense I lose functionality of them which is the same as losing them. See my point?

When I double-click on the icon, it says “Device could not start (Code 10)”. I hooked it up to my home computer with XP Service Pack 3 and it worked fine, so that leads me to believe it’s a driver issue with Vista.

I know a card reader would be the easiest solution, but it should work without having to do that. Kodak does not have any driver downloads on their website, just the Easyshare program download, which I tried already.

I re-installed the Kodak program and I had the same issue. I contacted Kodak and they were telling me it had something to do with the Vista drivers that the Kodak driver uses.
They said look into the WIA, WPD, and USBSCAN drivers. Their help stopped there pretty much, because they suggested I contact Microsoft. Too bad it costs $49 (starting cost) for help from Microsoft.

What happened was about just over a month ago auto updates installed service pack 3. The software could’nt verify the product key and gave them 30 days to register with windows online with product key. The girls ignored this as they couldnt do it as their 3 yo son ripped the windows sticker off.
Now when you turn the computer on windows wont let you onto your desktop as it wants the product key. Ive tried safe mode and system restore back to the earliest point but that happens to be when service pack 3 was installed. Ive also tried msconfig and gone through boot and startup to make sure there was nothing else stopping it. I need to get hold of the product key off the hard drive or a way to get rid of service pack 3. Its a genuine windows product and the pc was purchased new.

I want to buy a movie online, from a respected/valid site, download it, and done! No software to use other than my own players (currently VLC).

No limits to which computer I watch it on. Meaning, I want to download it and stick it on my network drive so I could watch it at my desk on my desktop, in the living room on a laptop, or take it on my travel laptop. No copying limits! I can back it up on external media like a DVD-R if I choose to (if worth it and the rest could care less if a drive crashes).
Viewable in full screen like an actual DVD. Be nice they also sell shows: Sanctuary, Doctor Who, Carpica, Sarah Jane, Torchwood, Satrgate Universe (wow, all are on SYFY too). Is located in the United States of America because, well, I live here and do not want to deal with some outside source.
My reasons are to make sure I am buying a digital movie with the same rights as I would buying the hard copy. Not having to deal with money conversions. Knowing it is legal.
Those reasons. I look for digital because takes up less space in the place and easier to have 10 movies on my travel unit than lugging around 10 DVDs as well that can get damaged and have to buy again.
I am not rich, as the entertainment industry seems to think people are. Let me go over. Buy movies, not download via torrents and have the MPAA send SWAT after me (I could only take on 4-5 in hand to hand, not a few dozen at once) claiming I am the cause of them loosing millions because I downloaded a movie and some episodes.
I do not need that. I looked into Blockbuster but they do not fit most of the above, like needing certain software (which will not work after you leave them), copying limits, and more. I discussed this with them for weeks (because some of them had no clue how to answer my technical questions).
So, legal, valid, digital, full rights as if I bought the actual DVD. Why? Saves space.
I do not need to have tons of DVDs when I have little space. I have been buying DVDs for years. Got a collection, but they are taking up a lot of shelves.
Makes less room for new books. Not everything is worth buying that has to be on a DVD (hence, not worth backing up the digital version either). Saves resources.
I do not need to have more trees killed for a movie I may not like. I move often.
Less to pack! Renting stuff is not an option since, well, I would not own it. Playing in VLC, for example, I can put on a bunch of things in queue to play in random order. Nice.
I do not have to rely on a broadband connection to watch something for oh so many reasons (bottlenecks, lag, dead router, down web service, airplanes, airplanes, airplanes, non-net acess, etc etc etc). Hope I made my point.
So, if you know of any online vendors that do this legit, please do tell. I think I gave enough examples of what I require to look into what you may post back with. Therefore, if you mention something that goes against the above (renting, illegal downloading, etc), it may not be worth the time to reply with your comments.

Looking to Buy Digital Movies, but.? Hello, One week ago I got my Dell Inspiron 6000 and I was able to connect to a wireless network with it before. (I clicked “View Available Networks” and there were a bunch of them, I chose one called “Wireless_N” because it had the strongest signal).
When I went on the Internet with my laptop, it had an icon of 2 computers with a wireless signal going out AND four bars that showed my connectivity strength. Now, when I click “View Available Wireless Networks” when I am not connected, I get a message saying “Choose a wireless network: Windows cannot configure this wireless connection.
If you have enabled another program to manage this wireless connection, use this software. If you want Windows to configure this wireless connection, start the Wireless Zero Config.
service.. @#%!~~~”. I believe it was those 4 connection bars that allowed me to connect to a wireless network because I usually clicked on them and it usually showed a list of networks to connect to. These past couple days the bars have not been there and only the 2 computer icon has been there. The problem is, it is connected to a weak signal and I don’t get much use out of it. When I try to change it, the error message above comes.
I have NO IDEA what to do and how to fix this problem. Oh and by the way, my Dell connects using “Dell Wireless 1370 WLAN Mini-PCI C” but I highly doubt that its the hardware that is the problem.
I don’t know of any other program I use to connect to the internet and I do not know how to access the Wireless Zero Config thing.. I am completely clueless of what to do at this point so any input/answers would be highly appreciated.
