Want to Use My Computer On My Television?

I just bought myself an MSI 2220 AE25SUS desktop. I used to have a VGA cable connected to my television so I could use my much larger television screen while working on my computer. Apparently, my new computer only has a VGA “in” port. Long story short, I seemingly can no longer send a signal out from my computer to my television. I called MSI’s customer service and they told me this was the case; however, I’m not entirely convinced this is the case b/c the CSR I spoke to didn’t seem to know is elbow from another part of his anatomy. I have an HDMI port, several USB ports, an e-SATA port, a tv tuner connector and an “optical S/PDIF-Out Jack”. Is there ANY way I can use my television, in essence, a second “monitor,” with my new computer. My television has VGA, HDMI and component inputs. Any thoughts, ideas (mods, adaptors, etc.). Is this a software or hardware problem. Thanks!

Sending a signal from my computer to an external monitor?

I’m currently with Sky for my broadband, TV and phone. They have a great service, 5/5.

But I received a letter today about my broadband which said that I have exceeded my monthly usage allowance. When I signed up with them they said that I had a unlimited download and usage plan, with 2MB of download speed. (I know it’s slow lol).

I downloaded loads of games, films and software onto my computer and have never had one of these letters. When I phoned them up today they said that my usage allowance was 2GB?!?!

WTF? How can that be if I’m downloading at least two to three gigabites a day? And I’ve never gotten one of these letters. I have previous had the Base package which comes free with sky talk and sky TV, which is partly why it’s shit, (considering 2GB usage allowance and 2MB download speed).

So now they have automatically upgraded me to sky everyday, which has 10GB monthly usage allowance, and up to 10MB download speeds. For?5 extra a month. (For existing sky customers).

So why is it that if I download so much, and only have a 2GB monthly usage allowance, I have never received one of these letters?

Sky do however have an unlimited package, with 20MB download speed and unlimited usage.

The package that they have upgraded me to (10GB usage and 10MB download speed), I think is definitely better for me, since with all my downloading habits.

Lol, I dont know if this counts as a question, but can someone elaborate on this one for me?

Going over sky broadband monthly usage allowance?

I am starting a service like skype but what will make a customer continuously use my service.

For example, they download the software client, they log in and search for contacts, realize that none of their friends or family are on there, and then quit the program.

Can someone help me with this please?

How do big websites that we have today start out.?

I am a 26 year old male. I’ve always been good at things like art and music, but I didn’t believe it was realistic to pursue those kinds of programs in college, so I compromised and got a degree in Media Studies with an audio/video production concentration, thinking I could always get a job at a TV station if I had to. It turns out that not only was my college program actually pretty weak on the production end and doesn’t qualify me to do a whole lot, but the market is now being saturated by people doing the kind of work I went to school for because everyone with some money and an interest in that kind of thing has bought a new computer and some good consumer-level equipment and either taught themselves how to do it or taken some lessons.

After graduating in 2006, I worked two internships, two temporary jobs, and a part-time job as a production assistant where I made between $5,000 and $9,000 a year. I finally quit that job, because making $8,000 a year is NOT acceptable. I also tried door-to-door sales, which I hated and didn’t make any money at. I’ve thought of starting my own business but I don’t have the experience, time, or startup capital to do that realistically.

So here I am now, 26 years old, with no particularly marketable skills and no money, just a pointless degree that I wasted four years of my life working on and nearly four more trying to make something out of. I live with my parents because I have no other choice, I have no social life because I have no money and don’t know that many people around here (and I spend most of my free time looking for work anyway). Most of the jobs I DO find I’m not qualified for. I might be able to get a degree in something related to my current degree, but that will take me 2-4 more years and I will be approaching 30 years old. It also might not pay off, which would put me in an even worse situation.

I feel like I hardly got any use out of my young adulthood, and now I’m faced with having to move on past it much sooner than I would like, without the experiences, money, or career future that I would like to have at this point. I have a combined total of about $400 between my checking and savings accounts, and I have no job and no clear career path. I’m also uncomfortable working jobs that require cash registers or extensive customer service. I’m highly intelligent and a good worker, but since I don’t have 5 years of work at a television station, or a certificate showing that I am a master of all parts of Microsoft Office (as if it takes a genius to figure that software out), the jobs I apply to are often not interested in hiring me. Pretty much any job I look at wants me to convince them why I’m the best, most enthusiastic, top-qualified person for the job even if it’s something stupid that I don’t like and that anyone could honestly do if given a brief training period. They also want you to convince them that you’ll stay there sucking up to them for the rest of your life, even if it’s just a job cleaning toilets. I wouldn’t have any problem committing to a job that I wanted to be working, but it’s not the same for a temporary job that I’m taking just because I need money.

I don’t know what to do. Should I go back to school to further my video and audio production skills even though it might not pay off? Should I switch fields and get a degree in something like architecture, which would be difficult and probably use up the rest of my twenties but probably pay off more monetarily? What do I do about my current lack of money? There are all kinds of little classes and pieces of equipment I could be buying in order to make my video experience more marketable, but I can’t afford any of it. Should I work a crap job just to afford that stuff and keep trying video production or just go straight back to school in something else?

Somebody please help me figure this out as soon as possible, because the thought of wasting my young adulthood makes me more and more depressed with each unsuccessful year that flies by. In response to “Capwest5a”:

No, you are INCORRECT, I CAN’T afford Internet access. My PARENTS, who I live with because I HAVE NO MONEY can afford it and I use it. Please pay attention to the details and think through what you’re about to say before you post it.

Also, It’s not that I’m incapable of doing math, I’m not an idiot.

I would just need to study really hard to do something like that. it wouldn’t be impossible. Regarding the cash register/customer service thing, it’s not that I can’t do the work, it’s just that I find that kind of thing very draining because I’m averse to working with one stranger after another under high pressure all day e. g. McDonald’s. I’m perfectly capable of OPERATING c ash register. I do tend to worry about running into difficult people sometimes on the job.

It told me that my interests and aptitude are all very high in the artistic/creative fields. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to figure out how to actually get a job in those fields that pays real money. I almost majored in graphic design in college, but then I didn’t because I thought it wouldn’t pay off. Turns out there are lots of people looking to hire graphic designers, and the pay is ok for an entry-level job, but beyond that I’m not sure there’s much room for advancement, which is why Im’ hesitant to go in that direction.

How do I stop wasting my life?

Ok, I have a relatively new laptop. When I purchased the new laptop, I updated it for my existing Norton Antivirus subscription which I had on my desktop computer. Yesterday, I installed a software program (Quicken Willmaker). The program recommended I download Adobe Acrobat, which I wasn’t sure I had or not, so I proceeded to download. In the process, it asked something about if I wanted to allow some Active X thing, I said “yes” since I had initiated the download & thought it would be safe. Maybe it was safe, maybe not, I am not sure right now. Anyhow, like an hour later, when renewing Norton (since a year had lapsed since the purchase which I installed on desktop pc), the computer started to freeze & internet browsing started acting funny. I got a pop-up telling me to install some software because my computer was “infected”. I contacted Norton & they didn’t want to tell me how to update the laptop for my subscription, they said the “threat must first be resolved”. “Threat resolution” would require me to “do-it-yourself” (which they didn’t recommend), then they were STRONGLY pushing for their service which started at like $149 (roughly). I could see through their tactics & I just went ahead & figured out how to do the renewal myself & then I ran a comprehensive scan which all it found was a cookie. My question is: Can there still be something wrong, or by updating to the latest version & running the scan, am I safe? or should I take the computer in to Best Buy or pay them all this money?? I just don’t want to get ripped off when I could have potentially caught & fixed the problem by having Norton run a scan. Thanks in advance for your opinions/suggestions.

Did I do the right thing in not listening to Norton Customer Service (sales rep)?

I have had to reinstall all my software following a hard disk crash. I want to use Outlook as my email editor but am asked for my Yahoo Password. (”Use the password your service provider gave you.”) I can’t find it and don’t know where to begin looking for it!

they do this by requiring you use your serial number to download the ink reset utility

I’ve went to their website, but it seems the driver is broken up in parts and i’m not for sure what to download.. Their customer service stinks from high heaven and they are of no help. This card continues to crash and I have downloaded the upgrades, but now I can’t even get into the control panel for the card to adjust it. I’ve re-installed the software 3 times from my disk that came with the video card and it’s just screwed up.. I just bought this card a few days ago and if I can’t get it fix i’m sending it back to Newegg. I have Xp and yes I have removed the old one which is a intergraded card
